Placement Student / Engineering Technician

Salary: £19,602 12 Month Fixed Term Contract – Full Time

This is an exciting opportunity to join a busy team managing coastal flood and erosion risk.

The Eastern Solent Coastal Partnership provides a Coastal Defence Management Service to Havant Borough Council, Portsmouth City Council, Gosport Borough Council and Fareham Borough Council that reduces the risks to people, and the developed and natural environment from flooding and coastal erosion within the respective local authority areas. This area includes three major harbours of significant environmental importance and over 160km of coastline.

The placement offers the opportunity to work and gain experience in a wide variety of roles within the Service. Working within the Capital Projects Team alongside engineers and construction management professionals you will assist the project teams in undertaking civil engineering design, site supervision for the construction of large capital projects and the maintenance of various types of coastal assets along this coastline.

You will have the opportunity to work on our existing multimillion-pound projects that include the design and construction of the next generation of flood defenses at Southsea and around the North of Portsea Island. We are also developing engineering options and designing new flood defenses in Portchester, Hill Head and Gosport. In addition, the Capital Projects Team provides technical advice and support to the wider functions within the coastal partnership and partner authorities.

We are looking for suitable applicants studying for a civil engineering related degree to undertake a 12 months industrial placement. The successful candidate will be required to fulfil the requirements of an Engineering Technician. The post will commence in Summer 2020.
