Executive Director of Finance

College location: Based at our Eastbourne Head Office 
                                        (with travel to other campuses as required)

Annual salary: Circa £80,000 
                                        (Flexibility for an exceptional candidate, subject to                                                      qualifications, skills and experience) 

Hours:          Full time, 37 hours/week


We are looking for an exceptional Executive Director of Finance to join the College’s Executive Team at a really exciting time.  In November 2021 the college was inspected by Ofsted and the work of all our staff was recognised with an overall grade of Good.  Following ESFA intervention in November 2019 the College also moved to post-intervention monitoring and support in December 2021.   The Executive Director of Finance will have responsibility for ensuring our trajectory towards good financial health continues. 

As our Executive Director of Finance you will provide the Board, CEO & Principal, COO and senior leadership team with technical financial and accounting expertise and advice.  You will promote excellent financial management and ensure robust internal controls so that public money is used efficiently and effectively.  You will also assist the COO to develop the College’s financial strategy.

You will be responsible for leading the cross-college finance team and ensuring its effective operation, to include: providing professional advice and guidance on finance and budgetary matters; production of accurate financial reports, forecasts and analysis; ensuring procurement in line with financial regulations; management of taxation matters; management of allocated budgets. 

The successful candidate will have a relevant professional qualification as a qualified accountant and have significant proven experience of successfully leading and managing multiple teams within a finance function in an FE college or educational establishment.  As well as operational finance experience and knowledge, the job holder will demonstrate successful implementation and delivery of commercially focused, compliant finance strategies and complex income models, will have experience of developing and delivering robust financial controls and will have proven experience of producing management accounts, draft budgets, financial plans/projections and end of year financial statements

You will be a credible and motivational leader and communicator, who builds effective working relationships with all stakeholders and develops talented and competent teams.  A solution focused and organised approach is essential, as are advanced level IT skills.
