Location: South East - covering some or multiple regions including all London boroughs, St Albans, Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, Bedforshire and Essex (to be discussed further at interview/upon offer)
Starting Salary: £27,472 to £30,000 per annum depending on experience + £4,105 London Weighting (if applicable) (+ benefits)
Current Total Salary Progression: Up to £38,123 (+£4,105 London Weighting if applicable) per annum depending on development within the role

This is a fantastic opportunity to join The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association as an Orientation & Mobility Specialist. This role is based at our London office covering all London Boroughs.

The role
The Rehabilitation Officer (known to the organisation as an Orientation and Mobility Specialist (OMSp)) helps people with sight loss to live the life they choose by delivering orientation and mobility services which support Guide Dogs strategic objectives and promote independence and choice to people who are blind and partially sighted.  

Within this role, you will work with clients seeking to improve their mobility by assessing individual orientation and mobility needs (including functional vision), capabilities, abilities and skills-gaps. Based on these needs and capabilities, you will co-produce, deliver and regularly review staged mobility plans. 

This rewarding role also allows the OMSp to lead, inspire and mentor trainee staff, ensuring service excellence to help people with sight loss to live the life they choose.

Who we’re looking for
You will be a qualified Orientation and Mobility Specialist with experience of working with people who are blind and partially sighted. Alongside this you will have:
  • Ability to build rapport with and obtain information from clients using person centred planning.
  • Excellent people skills, including being able to provide emotional support and can successfully liaise and work with other professionals and volunteers. 
  • Proven skills and approaches to work with people who have additional needs. 
  • Good organisation and report writing skills and a commitment to Health & Safety at work.
