Location / travel Southampton Airport based/ May travel to other Stations
To maintain security standards and ensure the smooth transition of all customers, staff, airport users and vehicles through the airport in accordance with EC Legislation and Airport Security Managers’ Directives
To screen all personnel passing through restricted areas by using both archway detectors and manual body searching where necessary with the exception of those exempt by the DfT/EC Legislation.
To screen all items being carried into restricted areas using, x-ray equipment, trace detection equipment and manual search in order to ensure that no prohibited items are taken into the Critical Part to ensure that the safety of the aircraft, passengers and crews is maintained.
Checking authorised access
To check identification and/or travel documents for all passengers, staff and airport users requiring access to Critical Part and other Airside areas.
To ensure that checks of vehicles entering Critical Parts and Other Airside Areas are carried out in accordance with EC/DfT Regulations in order to detect unauthorised personnel, firearms and other prohibited articles.
Patrol the terminal and airside areas to ensure the terminal is secure e.g. any potential security risks are identified that the presence of any personnel is justified and that airside/landside doors are secure.
To communicate effectively, demonstrating empathy and understanding to passengers whilst ensuring that security procedures are followed in all cases.
To assist with emergency situations which could arise within the terminals (e.g. evacuation procedures)
To be knowledgeable about the facilities and layout of the airport in order to assist passengers and airports users with their queries.
To co-operate with a number of other organisations e.g. Police, Customs, Border Agency, Fire Service, Airlines.
To demonstrate a flexible and helpful attitude, assisting in the smooth running of the airport.
To maintain professional standards at all times including personal appearance in accordance with uniform standards
Complete documentation, recording incidents in a clear and concise manner as required.
Ensure compliance with Company Health and Safety Policies, taking personal responsibility for employing safe working practices to minimise risk to self, work colleagues and customers.
Read and adhere to Safety Notices.
To participate in projects and working parties and to carry out any other duties that may be outside the standard remit for the purpose of personnel development, or as may be reasonably required by the Company
Qualifications and experience
Must demonstrate good observation and object recognition.
Must have the physical ability to stand for long periods of time, bend up and down during body searching and lift hand baggage weighing up to 6 kilos
Must be cleared in accordance with DfT Regulations
Ability to read, understand, write and speak English at a level which will enable the completion of security documentation and effective communication with the immediate team and passengers.
Framework and boundaries
To work in accordance with all DfT directions.
To escalate matters arising outside normal day to day activities i.e. breaches of DfT directions, Health & Safety Regulations and Security equipment failure.
