Location: Bexleyheath

Salary:   £35,271 - £41,502 per annum

We are seeking a full time SHiFT Guide for our new Bexley SHiFT Practice. SHiFT Guides are highly skilled and experienced in working with children and young people, are exceptional communicators, and bring energy and drive to provide exceptional services to children and young people. Guides are resilient, highly autonomous, and flexible, working confidently and dynamically in fast-moving and/or uncertain contexts. The Bexley SHiFT Practice is a collaboration between SHiFT Organisation ltd (a registered Charity) and Children’s Services at the London Borough of Bexley. SHiFT exists to break the destructive cycle of children caught up in, or at risk of, crime and associated behaviour.

The SHiFT Practice will work with children and young people up to the age of 25 for whom things are getting worse, not better, and who would benefit most from an intense, therapeutic relationship. SHiFT offers children an intensive (at least 18 month), needs and strengths-led, therapeutic relationship. Investing time enables SHiFT to create trust, build stability and provide consistency.

Working as highly skilled, multidisciplinary teams of professionals, SHiFT gets alongside young people who are among the most vulnerable and causing the most harm to themselves and others. We start from wherever a young person is, working systemically with them, their family, friends, and community (including all statutory professionals in their lives) to develop high trust, culturally competent and strengths-driven relationships that catalyse pro-social change.

SHiFT Guides are able to affectively assess and manage risk and are high skilled in safeguarding children and young people. Highly professional and creative in approach, SHiFT Guides are able to quickly establish rapport with young people and stakeholders across a wide range of services.

We know that change is difficult. We also know that young people in conflict with the law have complex and overlapping education, health, and social care needs, and that offending behaviours can mask significant and underlying vulnerabilities. Recognising this, SHiFT commits to doing whatever it takes to break destructive cycles of harm and trauma. Unconstrained by age, geographic or professional boundaries, SHiFT starts with aspiration and belief in the young people in our care. We support them with unrivalled intensity, longevity, and ambition - our work with young people finishes when they are set on a path for success.

The Bexley SHiFT Practice will consist of a Lead Guide, 2 Guides, and a 0.5 FTE Practice Co-ordinator. As a SHiFT Guide, you will be responsible for delivering personalised interventions and be a constant presence in the lives of children and young people supported by the Practice. You will carry out a flexible, effective, intensive outreach programme with children and young people including out of hours and weekends, working tenaciously to build relationships and enable positive change.

You will be co-located with the Youth Justice Service, which is part of a successful partnership and at the heart of developments to prevent crime and promote the inclusion of young people in Bexley.

“Bexley is a safe and supportive place to work with highly creative work undertaken by a skilled and well supported workforce – Ofsted 2018”

The Council, its staff and partners, were delighted in August 2018, when Ofsted judged the overall effectiveness of children’s social care services to be ‘outstanding’!  We were especially pleased that our investment in frontline practitioners and managers was recognised. We offer a comprehensive range of training and professional development opportunities including access to research, group and e-learning, coaching and group and clinical supervision. Practitioners are invited to contribute to our learning and development offer in Bexley and to enhance Continuing Professional Development. There is opportunity to co-design and deliver training if this is of interest. We invest in our staff so they can invest in the children, young people and families we support.

Here in Bexley, we recognise that our greatest asset is our workforce. Staff well-being is important to us, and you will have access to our weekly staff well-being drop in sessions, our Employee Assistance Programme and our corporate offer of emotional and physical well-being sessions.

As a member of SHiFT, you will also have access to specialist and focused support from the national SHiFT team supporting and driving excellence and innovation in practice. Providing you and the SHiFT Practice with exceptional learning opportunities, supporting the work you will be doing to enable SHiFT Bexley to achieve exceptional things working with children and young people.

You should hold a relevant professional qualification and/or significant qualifying experience of working with children and young people with multiple and complex needs, aged 10 – 25. It is important that you have a creative approach, are curious and committed to using the very best evidence to inform practice and bring plenty of energy, initiative and the ability to forge effective partnerships with other agencies.

Come and join us to deliver excellent services to children and their families.
