G09 £35,745 - £38,223 per annum

Wrexham County Borough Council have an exciting opportunity within our Looked After Children team as a social worker.

We are seeking an individual who is committed to the outcomes of children and young people, who is anti-discriminatory and anti-oppressive and will advocate for children and young people. You will need to be motivated and have good assessment skills, if this sounds like you we would really like to hear from you.

Wrexham is a rewarding place to work, we have various hours available, all offered on permanent contracts. In return, you will receive a competitive salary of £35,745 - £38,223 per annum, an attractive local authority pension, progression and development to experienced social worker, provided certain criteria is met, plus a Recruitment Incentive payment of £2,996.

Why join the Looked After Children Team as a Children’s Social Worker?

The Looked After Children Team consists of a mix of experienced and newly qualified social workers and four Family Support Workers, who are very supportive of each other. Additional support and mentoring is provided by an experienced Team Manager and two experienced ATMs. The new bright and spacious office facility can only be described as excellent and facilitates effective team working, with the atmosphere between all the teams being one of mutual respect and support in the shared vision of improving outcomes for the children in Wrexham, who they support.

We are a relatively small department with all staff on one floor in one building, which makes it much easier to form professional relationships. We are also very fortunate to have an Action for Children project in Wrexham, who provide therapeutic services for our children and young people as well as a consultation service for social workers.

We have regular team meetings supervision and the very important informal discussions. These allow staff to decompress and emotionally support each other by talking about any difficult cases they encounter.

This role supports hybrid working, a broadly even balance between working from home and working from an office base.

This Social worker post in the Looked After Children Team attracts a recruitment incentive payment of £2,996 as a welcome to the Council.

The payment is pro rata for part time employees. The payment is subject to normal employee deductions e.g. pension, NI and Tax and other terms and conditions apply, please see the Recruitment & Retention Payment Guidance note for more details.
