PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT & WELLBEING MENTORS for (ESOL)

Known in the college as Personal Development and Wellbeing Tutor

1 x 30 hrs per week post at our Hastings campus.

1 x full time, 37 hours post at our Eastbourne campus.

Full year, permanent contracts.

Salary circa £26k per annum.

We are looking for two proactive team players to join our Wellbeing team to work closely with our ESOL teams. Successful applicants will work with a caseload of ESOL students and support them in removing barriers to learning and to help them to improve their attendance.

ESOL students come from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds and often face challenges like mental health issues, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and the threat of or actual homelessness. These students require support to overcome these barriers and excel in their education.

Postholders will work to provide flexible, individual support for identified students who are considered ‘at risk’ of not achieving their learning aims in order to increase and improve student attendance, retention, achievement and progression; and to identify and report any identified safeguarding risks with students.

Postholders will also deliver group tutorial sessions and adapt the college’s Personal Development resources to take account of cultural sensitivities, potential trauma impact, and improve suitability for non-native speakers.

Successful candidates will have experience in identifying students’ needs and developing appropriate responses. Students within the ESOL department are aged from 16 to adults. Knowledge around safeguarding and mental health will be particularly useful for these roles.  Some evening work will also be required and the postholder will also be required to support with college events.

We can offer you:

These posts are subject to a DBS check.
