WELCOME TO HARTLEPOOL BOROUGH COUNCIL RECRUITMENT WEBSITE 

From 1st July 2025, all job applications will be processed via North East Jobs.  This applies to all vacancies advertised from 1st July 2025 onwards.  Any vacancies advertised prior to 1st July 2025 will continue to be processed via this site.

1. The purpose of this document 

Hartlepool Borough Council (the Council) is a "data controller".  This means that we are responsible for deciding how we hold and use personal information about you.  You are being provided with a copy of this privacy notice because you are applying for work with us (whether as an employee, worker, volunteer or contractor).  This document makes you aware of how and why your personal data will be used, namely for the purposes of the recruitment exercise, and how long your data will usually be retained.  It provides you with certain information that must be provided under the General Data Protection Regulation ((EU) 2016/679) (GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018 (DPA). 


2. Data protection principles 

We will comply with data protection law and principles, which means that your data will be: 

Used lawfully, fairly and in a transparent way. 

Collected only for valid / relevant purposes that we have stated and not used in any way that is incompatible with those purposes. 

Accurate and kept up to date. 

Kept securely and only as long as necessary for the purposes we have told you about. 


3. The types of information we hold about you 

In connection with your application for work with us, we will collect, store, and use the following categories of personal information about you including;

1. Title.

2. Name (including previous names).

3. Address.

4. Date of birth.

5. Place of birth.

6. Gender.

7. Marital / civil status.

8. Personal telephone numbers.

9. Personal email address.

10. National Insurance number.

11. Education history.

12. Qualifications.

13. Professional Development / Training history.

14. Professional body registration. 15. Previous employers / Employment history.

Please Note: 

If you have not received a response to your application within 3 weeks of the closing date please assume you have been unsuccessful. 

All successful applicants for jobs with the Council will be required to provide evidence of a right to work in the UK.  Applicants for jobs who are EU/EEA/Swiss nationals should be aware that the UK has left the EU and the transition period has expired.  This means that to apply for and undertake work in the UK after 1st July 2021 EU/EEA/Swiss citizens now have to provide evidence of a right to work in the UK, e.g. Settled or Pre-Settled Status.  https://www.gov.uk/settled-status-eu-citizens-families The new system will treat EU and non-EU citizens equally.  Currently HBC are not a Sponsor employer. 

Irish citizens and Crown Dependencies Jersey, Guernsey, or the Isle of Man are exempt from thelass="Default">16. Any personal relationships with other Council employees / Councillors.

18. Nationality / immigration status.

19. Right to work in the United Kingdom.

20. Proof of identity (e.g. Passport).

21. Whether or not you receive a local government pension.

22. Your interests / hobbies.

23. Individuals who may provide you a reference.

24. Coronavirus vaccination status for working in CQC Registered Care Homes.

25. Any additional information you provide to us.

We may also collect, store and use the following "special categories" of more sensitive personal information: 

Information about your race or ethnicity, religious beliefs, sexual orientation.

Information about your health, including any medical condition, health and sickness and Coronavirus vaccination status / exeUK’s points-based immigration system and there will be no change to the arrangements for the Common Travel Area and assuch rights to work etc. continue. 

Be assured Hartlepool Council welcomes job applications from everyone who has the right to work in the UK.  Immigration information may change / be updated so please regularly check the government websites.
