Hartlepool is a vibrant and energetic town with growing prospects. As an authority we want to make Hartlepool the best it possibly can be and want dedicated, driven and committed staff to help us achieve that.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a small but busy team within Legal Services.

The Scrutiny Team provides support to the Audit and Governance Committee in delivery of the Council’s statutory health and crime and disorder scrutiny responsibilities.

The Scrutiny and Legal Support Officer will work under the direction of the Statutory Scrutiny Manager and will support the delivery of the annual work programme, conduct of potentially high profile investigations and wider scrutiny planning arrangements. It will lead on consultations with stakeholders, partners and the public, undertake relevant research and prepare reports / briefing papers / presentations to support the conduct of high quality scrutiny investigations by the Audit and Governance Committee.

This will require close working with Elected Members and senior managers from across sectors and organisations. The role will also assist in the provision of administrative support to the Leader of the Council and wider Legal Service and Democratic Services Divisions, with responsibility for the arrangement and clerking of school admission appeals and reviews of exclusion decisions.

This role calls for excellent interpersonal and organisational skills, a high degree of motivation and an analytical mind.  You must be educated to degree or professionallevel (or equivalent), have experience of project management, policy development and review. Excellent communication and IT skills are essential.

A hybrid working pilot scheme is in place.  Following an initial induction and training period the successful candidate will be required to attend the office on a minimum of two days a week.
