Hartlepool is a vibrant and energetic town with growing prospects. As an authority we want to make Hartlepool the best it possibly can be and want dedicated, driven and committed staff to help us achieve that.

Hartlepool Borough Council has a permanent vacancy for a Team Manager within the Safeguarding, Assessment and Support Team. The team provides a comprehensive social work service to children and their families through assessing need, creating packages of care and support and effectively managing risk.

Hartlepool Borough Council is committed to providing a high quality social work service to children, young people and their families.  Devoting resources, energy, and imagination, we promote the independence and wellbeing of children and young people through effective partnership working with families and other professionals.

You will be responsible for managing the day to day running of the team, provide reflective supervision, support and modeling for Social Workers. You will supervise the Assistant Team Manager (ATM) and Social Workers within the team. With the assistance of the ATM, you will also mentor and develop newly qualified social workers as part of the Local Authority ASYE programme. We also have a dedicated team of experienced managers who provide intensive support to our ASYE cohort which not only ensures ASYEs have an excellent first year in practice but it also reduces some of the pressure on your capacity to manage the team.

Hartlepool Borough Council will offer you an excellent working environment where you will receive high quality supervision, training and opportunities for your professional development.  Children Services in Hartlepool prioritise your wellbeing through manageable caseloads, a highly supportive and visible senior management team, an excellent staff wellbeing at work offer and a very positive culture of support and development.  We will offer you protected time away from casework responsibilities, break out spaces and wellbeing days which are solely designed to support the health and wellbeing of you and your team.

Hartlepool Children’s Services has a very stable workforce and rarely employs agency Social Workers. Although we use a small number of agency Social Workers when required to assist with capacity and to ensure caseloads are manageable, we believe the inequality in the pay between permanent staff and agency staff can causeresentment and destabilize the workforce; therefore our priority is the investment in Hartlepool staff and recruiting the best people into our organisation. Hartlepool Children’s Services has a strong and effective culture, we are a collaborative team and pride ourselves on the highly supportive and relational way of working both within the organisation and with our children and families.

We have a flexible working model through the Council’s hybrid working policy which would allow you to work in the office and at home without being prescriptive.

You should possess a social work qualification at a degree or diploma level (or equivalent), and have post qualifying experience working with Children and Families.

Hartlepool Borough Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. This post is subject to safer recruitment measures, including an enhanced DBS barring list check and also need to be registered with Social Work England.
