Hartlepool is a vibrant and energetic town with growing prospects. As an authority we want to make Hartlepool the best it possibly can be and want dedicated, driven and committed staff to help us achieve that. In return, we can offer a range of benefits including 27 days (rising to 32 after five years continuous service) paid holiday per year plus Bank Holidays; access to a Local Government Career Average Pension Scheme with employer contributions; Occupational Maternity, Adoption, Paternity and Sick Pay schemes and training opportunities.
The Highway Operations team has an opportunity for three Highways Operatives on a permanent basis.
Works can be emergency, responsive repairs, programmed maintenance, works to capital funded schemes and other associated work which may arise in the provision of the Highway Operations service.
To undertake and assist with highways maintenance and construction work, including tarmacadam works, concreting, drainage, laying kerbs and paving. To ensure that all works are carried out with a focus on performance, safety and quality.
This role normally involves a large proportion of time performing manual labour duties with elements of driving between work locations.
A minimum of full valid Category B (car/pick up to 3.5t) driving licence is required for the entry level of this post, only candidates who hold this as a minimum will be considered. Please also see the ‘Person Specification’ for other ESSENTIAL requirements.
Job holders are appointed at the lowest grade, unless they satisfy all of the essential person specification requirements up to and including those for a higher grade. Subject to a minimum of 6 months within the post, there are opportunities for job holders to progress to higher grades within the scheme when they can provide each of the following:
· Evidence of having undertaken all of the key duties of the current grade competently.
· Evidence of having demonstrated the ability to start undertaking specified duties from within the next grade.
· Evidence of having completed any qualifications / training deemed essential for the next grade.
Please read the ‘Job Description’, which outlines some of the tasks and responsibilities the post holder will have at each level, alongside the ‘Person Specification’, which are essential and desirable criteria for each grade within the Scheme.
Training, support and opportunities will be offered to all candidates within this post. If you want to know more about the role or Development Scheme, please contact us on one of the numbers below.
We are looking for candidates who are keen to develop their skills and take on challenges, we will offer training such as HGV Class C training, City & Guilds in Winter Maintenance, NPORS plant training, NRaSWA training and much more!
If post holders pass their HGV Class C driving tests and City & Guilds in Winter Maintenance, this will open many more opportunities for working overtime. Evenings and weekends to carry out winter maintenance and highway call outs are often a requirement due to operational demands and pressures; this is an important part of the Highway Operations service and the ability to be on call and work outside normal working hours in line with operational needs is crucial. (Training and payment for this will be provided).
This is a unique opportunity for you to join an enthusiastic and committed team and play a key role in developing Hartlepool’s built environment.
