Hartlepool Brough Council are seeking a resilient, compassionate, and adaptable educational psychologist with experience of working with students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs. They will understand the challenges—and the rewards—of supporting students who may struggle in mainstream education. You’re not just an educational psychologist; you’re a support, a guide, and a steady presence for students who need consistency, care, and creativity.

The person appointed would work as a key part of The Horizon School (Hartlepool’s Pupil Referral Unit and provision for children with medical/ mental health needs)  to champion the needs of vulnerable children, in particular children who have been permanently excluded from mainstream schools and those who are accessing the service due to their medical/ mental health needs. They will  also deliver psychological services to educational settings, children and young people, parent/carers and other stakeholders.

This is an exciting opportunity for a person who would like flexibility in their role, work as part of a committed team, and importantly, work passionately to support our children and young people within The Horizon School.

We would welcome applications fromcreative, forward thinking candidates with the knowledge, skills and enthusiasm to use psychological frameworks to facilitate change through preventative, early intervention and systemic work with schools and agencies. A passion for supporting students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs and an interest in attachment aware and trauma informed approaches is vital.

Although this post is to support children and young people in The Horizon School, it will sit within Hartlepool’s highly regarded Educational Psychology Team.   As part of this team, the person appointed will benefit from regular EP supervision (both formal and informal), access to team meetings and development days and connection to other EPs.
