Public Protection Technical Officer

37 hours per week Salary Scale G08 £33,366 to £36,124 (01/04/2025)

Welcome to Wrexham!

Situated on the North East Wales border, Wrexham has a vibrant centre, is surrounded by rural villages and includes the World Heritage site, Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, and the now famous Wrexham AFC. Wrexham town has also recently been granted City status.

The post is based within the Public Protection service in the Environmental Health and Housing Standards Team, comprising Environmental Protection (pollution control, air quality, statutory nuisances, etc.) and Housing Standards (private sector housing).

The Council is seeking an enthusiastic and self-motivated person with practical experience and/or knowledge of environmental protection and public health work. An ability to learn and implement procedures such as equipment calibration, water sampling, risk assessing, investigating complaints and recording of field observations / communications is essential. An ability to use common office software and database systems is also essential.

You will work as part of the team and support the work of Enforcement and Public Protection Officers in the Team, being guided by the Specialist Public Protection Officer and Team Lead. As agile working is part of the service there is flexibility in the way work is carried out (flexible working, working from a variety of locations, home working, mobile working, etc).

The successful applicant will be educated to degree or diploma level in a relevant subject area, or have experience within the field of public protection. The Council will support your continued professional development (including qualifications) and encourage you to play a key role in the future development of the service. We would welcome applications from people from a diverse range of career backgrounds with good core skills, or someone just starting out.

We offer casual user car allowance and operate a Work Life Balance scheme. Hybrid/agile working between office and home is encouraged, with the office, having benefited from a full refurbishment in 2023, offering a modern and spacious working environment.
