Description
Chief Executive
£139,044 – £158,433 Per Annum
Wrexham is located in North East Wales and is proud of its Welsh heritage and cultural identity.
Nestled between the Dee Valley, the North Wales mountains and the Cheshire plains – and not too far away from Manchester and Liverpool – the location offers the best of both worlds.
Wrexham Council continues to grow, develop and transform, and we are looking for a dynamic leader who will spearhead and drive sustainable, forward-looking and transformational services – boosting economic growth and social wellbeing, whilst managing the financial challenges that exist within the public sector.
Economic development is key to this role, as we have a large industrial estate, we are part of Ambition North Wales and the Mersey Dee Alliance, and we have worked with partners to establish a UK and Welsh Government backed Investment Zone.
We have high aspirations for Wrexham and are determined to achieve these ambitions by working with our partners and stakeholders. Although we are developing rapidly, we still remember our history and heritage – ensuring the new and old complement each other in every aspect of Wrexham life.
The Nolan principles alongside our council values are an important part of the role and you must be a leader who is empowered and demonstrates trust and honesty.
You will have the skills to continue to work and build on existing relationships with our partners to achieve the most for Wrexham.
You will drive aspiration for Wrexham, collaborate with stakeholders, and be passionate about making a difference.
You will show a compassionate and fair leadership style, whilst delivering our day to day services and taking our performance forward. You will also have considerable leadership experience, as well as influencing and negotiating skills that can help build consensus on key decisions both internally and externally.
You will have a vision of how we can develop further, in order to bring benefits to our residents and deliver essential services.
If you are ready to rise to the challenge and have these skills, behaviours and core values, please click apply, or speak to Andrea Stevenson, Interim Head of Service, HR&OD on 01978 297510 or andrea.stevenson@wrexham.gov.uk
The Council welcomes applications from suitably qualified candidates regardless of race, gender, disability, sexuality, religious belief or age.
The Council is committed to developing its bilingual workforce and welcomes applications from candidates who demonstrate their capability to work in both English and Welsh. Applications submitted in Welsh will not be treated less favourably than an application submitted in English.
Closing date – Wednesday 20 August 2025
Shortlisting – Friday 5 September 2025
